The beautiful and sassy radio presenter and the force behind The Champs Foundation

Born in Ukunda Mombasa County Esther Mwende Macharia is one of the most celebrated Radio Personality who have managed to book herself a space in one of the most competitive career in the country.
Running one of the biggest radio shows at Radio Maisha Esther Mwende holds on an outspoken personality that has kept her going since she stepped into the studio as a radio presenter.
Her journey in the radio industry can be traced back to the year 2007/2008 when started off as an intern at Baraka Fm in Mombasa.
“I started radio back then at Baraka Fm as an intern, where I was attached to the newsroom. Things in the newsroom where not very smoothly as my passion in radio was not in the newsroom,” said the joyful Esther Mwende Macharia.
She decided to wals away from the Newsroom and focused on Emeeing bearing in mind that she was one of the best MC’s in Mombasa by that time.
In 2009 her love for radio grew back again and she decide to walk into Seikh Fm ,a radio station owned by Tony Msalame.
“I gave Tony Msalame a call and introduced myself while declaring my intrest of joining his radio station. After listening to my grievances he opted to meet me because I had just introduced myself has Mwende Macharia wa Ukunda, and Tony was like who is Mwende?,” remembers the beautiful Mwende.
After meeting with Tony Msalame , Mwende Macharia was tasked to prove that indeed she had what it takes to be radio presenter. She was offered the chance to go on air and being the confident woman she is she did not dissapointe and as they say the rest is history.
Mwende attributes his success in the media industry to hard work and being focused to what she loves doing.
“One of the greatest thing in life is understanding who you are and then exploiting your potential to the maximum,” advice’s Mwende.
Apart from being a radio presenter at Radio Maisha , Esther Mwende Macharia runs a Initiative called The Champs Foundation.
The Champs Foundation is an organization that as specialized in mentoring young people in the society and ensure they are headed towards the right direction.
The foundation also advocates for self-empowerment and personal development among the youth through self-skills.
Apart from Mentorship programmes that the foundation staged in different schools, be it primary, secondary, College and even University, the foundation also champions for provision of sanitary towels to school going girls who don’t have the ability to purchase this essential staff.
“Last year it was fun and great being involved with the Keeping girls in school campaign courtesy of @Alwayskenya /P&G. I mean interacting with lots of girls to talk about health and just being girls was epic,” posted Mwende
The Champs Foundation mostly targets the Youths from the age 15 years to 20 who need guidance in life in order to make a good future.
“The Champs Foundation is there to Inspire and speak to the society about issued affecting the youths and how they can over comer them. We move around from one school to another with people who have made it in life and are ready to give direction to the young generation,” said Mwende.
Mwende aka Binti Matata is among radio personalities who enjoy a huge following on social media be it Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“I discovered that a good number of youths can be easily reached while on social media, and therefore I decided to go for them, that’s why you see and very active on all platforms,” posed Mwende.
Recently, The Champs Foundation staged a mentorship programme at Zetech University where youths were inspired by different successful young people who carried the message of nothing is impossible with determination.
On the speakers list was Kevin Bahati, Hop Kid, Adelle Onyango, Holy Dave, Kelele Takatifu and Lucia Musau.
Under the slogan Najiua-Najiamini, The Champs foundation has managed to touch and inspire many life’s across the country.
