The 2017 BET Awards will take place at Microsoft Theater on Sunday, June 25 and the organizers of this top awards have decided to recognize great African talent’s.

During this year’s Awards, BET will be celebrating two African women who have been outstanding on the global map.
According to the organizers Legendary South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Ilwad Elman will receive Global Good honourees for their great efforts in the society.
 “This year we have two @BET_Intl#GlobalGood honourees! The first is social activist Ilwad Elman! @i_elman .” “Our second @bet_intl #GlobalGood award goes to humanitarian Yvonne Chaka Chaka! ,” posted BET on their Instagram Page.

The #GlobalGoodhonourees was started last year to recognize people who have been doing a great job in the African Continent
Ilwad Elman is a Somali-Canadian social activist. She works at the Elman Peace and Human Rights Center in Mogadishu alongside her mother Fartuun Adan, the NGO’s founder.

The first award went to Millen Magesse Miss Tanzania 2001 and Akon for his initiative of “Akon Lighting Africa.”
On the list of Nominees this years, King Kaka’s cousin Stomzzy and Rayvanny from WCB will be representing East Africa countries.
Beyonce is leading the nominees list with a total of seven nominations, with Bruno Mars coming second with 5 nods followed by Chance the Rapper, Solange and Migos
Beyoncé’s seven nods include best female R&B/pop artist (vying against sister Solange), best collaboration (with Kendrick Lamar on “Freedom”), album of the year and video of the year.
